Skydiver Survives 10,000 Feet Free-fall

180px-Ram_air_squareA skydiver survived after his main parachute failed to open properly during a 10,000ft freefall.

He crashed on to a warehouse roof near Tilstock Airfield in Whitchurch, Shropshire. The injured man was rescued from the roof by firefighters.

He was treated for head and neck injuries then flown to hospital, but is not thought to be seriously injured.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: “The man is reported to have fallen approximately 1,000ft, spiralling to the ground following a 10,000ft skydive.”

San Diego’s New World Champions

There’s a well-earned victory celebration upcoming in Chula Vista after a come-from-behind victory to claim the Little League World Series championship.

Bulla Graft’s sharp single scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning and Kiko Garcia pitched three-plus scoreless innings of relief to lead California to a 6-3 victory Sunday over Taoyuan, Taiwan to win the Little League World Series. (more…)

Student Rescues a Dog but May Lose Apartment

rescued-dog-adopted-425js082409Kelsey Westbrook, the waitress who adopted the female pit bull, “Sunny,” said the company that owns her Old Louisville apartment will not let her to keep the dog there.

“They’re claiming that they don’t allow vicious breeds on the property, and I have a lease violation by having her on the property,” Westbrook said.

Louisville firefighters rescued Sunny from the Ohio River Sunday after she was dumped off the bridge to the water roughly 80 feet below. Bystanders said they saw a white Chevy Malibu stopped on the bridge in the southbound lanes just before Sunny fell.
